Approximately two months ago, out of a desire to be creative once again, I began what I thought would be a hobby that quickly turned into a passion. The idea I had to make 'peg dolls' evolved into some of the cutest little collectibles. I am not saying this just because I think they are adorable (which I do) but because of all of the comments from my friends and family. Thank you, friends and family! ☺
Each doll is unique (one-of-a-kind) crafted from natural wood, and made with care and attention to detail. Heads and stands on the 4.5" dolls are firmly attached, arms are poseable, and dresses are not made to be removed. Under each stand is an i heart treasure™ signature and initials of the artist.
All collectibles are hand painted with non-toxic water-based paint, and finished with a non-toxic gloss glaze. Clothes are made from 100% cotton or a cotton blend.
The first doll arms were attached with hot glue. It holds very well but made the back of the doll a wee bit bulky. Now the arms fit snugly through a tiny drilled hole.
The first doll dresses were simple, finished off with a bow or ribbon. I quickly began to play with different pattern ideas, and have fun trying new patterns as I go along. The dress or outfit for each doll is created at the time the doll is made.
The hair and faces on the first dolls were also simple, but I found that putting just a little more detail (a sparkle in their eyes, eye lashes, highlights in the hair, etc.) made each doll just a little cuter. I went back over most of my dolls and added details to make that change.
I am working diligently to get my web site finished and published. It is not as easy as I thought it would be, with so much need for detail on the business end. Some sites require extensive knowledge of HTML and a degree in web publishing. Others I tried were either very boring or very non user friendly. I ended up purchasing a Website design studio. I'm not going to mention the name of the publisher or give any reviews until I've set it up and used it.
Enough for now. I've got work to do - as the clock reads 11:11 - hmmm.

Your dolls are so cute and I am happy for you that you are venturing on to Etsy. I love Etsy! I can't wait to see what other creations you come up with. I've been showing my girls at work and they all think you are so talented. =)
ReplyDeleteLove ya!

You won't believe this, but in stuff that mom saved for me is a clothespin doll that I made when I was about 8...clothes glued on, toothpick arms, face drawn on with marker! lol I will have to dig it out and take a picture of it, I ran into it when I found the letter from you (but it requires some digging in the storage shed).
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your doll, Joni! lol
ReplyDeleteI won't be going with Etsy after all. It's a great site for buyers, but not what I want as a seller. I'm excited to get my business going (soon) and am looking into various ways to market my 'treasures'!
